Plan and review

As it is one month until Christmas and the end of half term, I am going to review my progress and update my plan. 
I have currently completed 6 research blogs which have focused primarily on introducing me to  bullfighting; the history, origins and a basic understanding of what occurs. These have been helpful in beginning to fully understand the world of bullfights. However, there is still a lot of things I need to research.
In the next few weeks, there are a few things I aim to complete:
  • See to what extent bullfighting benefits the economy to assess whether it is justified.
  • Examine the thoughts and views of animal rights groups to see whether it is ethical or not.
  • Find more accounts of bullfights (from spectators and participants) to give me as many opinions as possible and therefore a better, more accurate understanding. Preferably, these will be from a number of formats as well (videos, articles, documentaries etc).
On September 8th, I made my original plan of what I was going to do each week. While I am still going to research each of these topics, I have not done it in the order that I originally expected. After reviewing this, however, I believe that it is better to let my research flow as this will enable me to connect my ideas and concepts rather than have information that isn't connected or useful. Even so, I will ensure that I remain conscious of the information and subject areas that I need to investigate to remain on path, assessing what information will be useful to me and my study and what wont be.

Evaluation of Presentation

  This is the presentation that I gave today. I tried to keep it engaging by speaking the information rather than reading from slides and I feel that this gave me more interaction with the audience. They wrote in the feedback that they noticed and liked this.  I spoke about everything I wanted to cover, and that included all that I'd learned, for example the brutal aspect of the bullfight or the masculine stereotypes. I also explained my reasons for choosing this topic and why I wanted to develop my skills by doing an EPQ, and feel that I conveyed this well.  When asked questions at the end of the presentation, I answered thoroughly and believe that these answers satisfied the audience. Specific Origins

I found a website today that is primarily a travel and information page. It had an interesting article, "Information on Bullfighting",  https://traveltips.usatoday.com/information-bullfighting-spain-3422.html .  which offered information on where specifically bullfighting originated from:  The origins "trace back to 711 A.D., and the first fight was held in honour of the king, King Alfonso VIII".   ( Thyberg, David, 2021). Spain was once a part of the Roman Empire, so the correlations between the bullfight and the gladiator games are visible. (This link is particularly interesting as it expains that bullfighting is on the borderline between being art and a bloody competition). The source also states that "bullfighting  was done on horseback and was reserved for Spanish aristocracy, but King Felipe V ended this trend because he believed it was in poor taste for nobles to practice such a bl oody sport". Main body of essay (plan)

 I wanted to create a clear plan of the content I am going to include for my main arguments of the dissertation, as these will make up the bulk of my essay and I need to have an organised argument since there is so much information that I could use. I am going to do the best i can to identify which of my blog posts will help me the most with each section also to ensure I have a range of reliable sources. I plan to write it as following: 1st argument: Cultural relevance Look into the process of the fight (The different thirds) and why the violence does not fit into modern society anymore. How tradition does not excuse violence. Use bullhorn injuries information.  Examine the origins of bullfighting and how it is from Roman times, so it can be percieved as outdated.
