Evaluation of Project

Evaluation: Strengths and Weaknesses

Evaluation                     Strengths                                                Weaknesses

What were the main strengths and weaknesses of the project.

My main strength was my research method, as I feel that my analysis of information developed greatly, and this enabled me to assess what resources were most useful and reliable. I always stuck to the research area, making sure that what I was investigating was relevant.

I also think that my strength was the diary of progress I kept in my plan, as this allowed me to see exactly where I found the information for each topic and when. I could visually see my progress as I dated every entry and when writing my dissertation it made the process easier as I had all the information evaluation to hand.

I feel that my time management could have been to a better standard, as I didn’t stick completely to a timed plan. While I think it benefitted me in the sense that I didn’t create unrealistic goals, I also think that a more in depth and detailed plan could have made it easier to balance between my other commitments and subjects, which are what sometimes occupied my time.

What new skills did you learn? What technologies did you learn?

I learned how to reference, which I think is a very useful skill to have for the future and studying at university.

I also discovered how to use resources such as Google Scholar to find academic dissertations, as these are usually reliable and before I didn’t know how to use it.

My weakness for this is I feel I could have used more sources such as documentaries, as while I did use some, there were a fairly limited amount, so this held me back slightly in terms of variety.

In doing the project, what did you learn about yourself and the way in which you learn?

I found that I learn better when my research flows rather than being extremely rigid, as this is when I find information that links towards an overall argument rather than individual topics that aren’t relevant. I also learnt that I enjoy research and actually grew to love and feel strongly about my subject.

My weakness is that I could have been better with my time management as if I were to do a dissertation again, I would have made a timed schedule to maximise my progress.

Has the project helped you in terms of your future plans (e.g. Study at university; career choices; going into employment)?

This project has helped me gain independence for university as it gave me experience of managing my own project and having lots of freedom.

I also think that the subject area of bullfighting was well chosen as it is an aspect of Spanish culture and within this research I have looked into social, economic, cultural, historical and political aspects of Spain which is relevant for my future studies of Spanish.

While my weakness was time management, I think that for the future I will be aware of this and be able to overcome it or take more care to ensure that it doesn’t become a weakness.

If you were to start your project again, what would you do differently, what would you do the same?

I would keep the same topic of Should Bullfighting be made Illegal in Spain? This is because I enjoyed researching it and feel that it was a topic that had many aspects to learn from. I would also still complete a research diary, as I found that this was crucial to my progress.

I would change the amount of planning I did and ensure I had more time. I would also try and obtain some primary research, as my research was all secondary. While secondary research is still very useful as I could assess other peoples views and opinions, using primary data would consolidate my own theories. This would require a lot more money and time, however, so it wasn’t realistic for this project.
